Google's goo.gl is a free URL shortener but is much more than that. 

First off, you can be in all of your google applications working and not have to go out to other sites to do your URL shortening. 

Secondly, you can track the history of the clicks to your url for those that have clicked on your shortened URL. You can track the last two hours, the day, the week, the month and all time.
